Steven Kussin was a high school principal for 21 years. His expertise is in the area of scheduling and school organization. He wrote the manual “How To Build the Master Schedule in 10 Easy Steps” (Corwin) and has run a full-day workshop for educators with the same name for the past 34 years. Recently he added a second day to the workshop, focusing on manipulations and innovations to the traditional master schedule. Since the book’s publication, he has been doing consulting for school districts around the country, running his workshop for small groups, assisting in the actual building of school schedules, or making recommendations for improving the master itself. Originally he worked with high schools; however, in recent years he has expanded his work to middle school and even elementary schools. He is an adjunct professor at Hofstra in the Department of Radio-Television-Film as well as being a workshop presenter for the University in the School of Education. In addition, he writes a newspaper column, “The Principal’s Office,” for the Herald chain of newspapers, dealing with issues of concern to administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
