Summer Career Exploration Programs Available This Summer
Summer Career Exploration and Pre-Employment Transition Services Summer Career Exploration Programs to be held in July
This summer, Eastern Suffolk BOCES will hold two simultaneous career exploration programs. The Summer Career Exploration Program and the Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) Summer Career Exploration Program will both take place in July.
The Summer Career Exploration Program is open to all students ages 13 to 15. Students will explore potential careers by participating in three weeks of project-based introductory courses at one of the three ESBOCES technical career centers located in Bellport, Oakdale, and Riverhead. The program will run Monday through Thursday from July 11 through July 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Course offerings include Culinary Arts, Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, Dog Care and Training, Welding, and Carpentry. The Pre-ETS Summer Career Exploration Program is a two-week program, Monday through Thursday from July 12 through July 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for special needs students ages 14 to 21. These students are able to gain workplace readiness skills while exploring careers in Culinary Arts, Animal Science, Health Careers, and Automotive Technology. This is the second year of the program, which is funded by a five-year grant from the NYS Education Department’s ACCES-VR Program. ACCES-VR’s goal is to assist individuals with disabilities in achieving and maintaining employment and to support independent living.
