Laura Donohue’s Animal Science students at Bixhorn Tech recently began practicing the basics of dog grooming. They learned about the different coats dogs have and the proper tools and shampoos to use, how to clean their ears, brush their teeth, bathe them, properly lift them from tub to table, dry them, clip their nails, and much more.

In addition to dog grooming and training basics, this program also includes animal care, and anatomy and physiology for a range of animals. “We cover a lot of material in this class,” said Donohue. “After high school, students who are interested in specific industries continue their education to become veterinarians, vet technicians, animal trainers, full-fledged dog groomers and so forth.”
