Personal Training students at the Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology came together with Carpentry students to thank Mr. D’s Ultimate Fitness in Patchogue for their commitment to education. Two students, Elishia Proctor and Matt Martin of William Floyd UFSD, recently completed their spring internship at Mr. D’s Ultimate Fitness. The Academy is the Career and Technical Education Program of Eastern Suffolk BOCES and has schools in Oakdale, Bellport, and Riverhead.
Elishia and Matt came together with students from Mr. Postigilione’s Carpentry class to build a plyo box for the gym. Plyo boxes are used in workouts for jumping exercises. The box was decorated with and a vinyl wrap designed by Mr. Placella’s Graphics class that showed the logo of the gym. Students learned to collaborate to achieve a common goal. Internships with local businesses are important for students to be career ready when they graduate. This internship will help students be prepared to work in a gym, or assist private personal training clients in the future.
