BAC Students Help Their Bellport Neighbors in Need
For the second year in a row, Bellport Academic Center students recently held a food and clothing collection for the 77 families currently living in the homeless shelter Help Suffolk in Bellport. The purpose was to raise awareness of the human struggle right in the school’s own neighborhood. “It also increases students’ gratitude and thankfulness for what we have,” said Lisa Larson, a school social worker at BAC.
“Some of our lessons have focused on random acts of kindness—how to positively affect another person’s life in one small deed.” The students involved in this community service project hand-delivered clothes, jackets/coats, hygiene products, diapers, shoes, and non-perishable foods to the shelter to help local people in need accompanied by teachers Josh Maisonave and Lisa Rotella.
