Strummin and Drummin, the Long Island-based band specializing in fun and interactive children’s music, paid a visit to Westhampton Beach Learning Center (WHBLC). The audience quickly caught on to the band’s catchy lyrics and many students were invited to the front of the room to sing with them. WHBLC Music Teacher Mary Cummings even joined the musicians on her flute. For the grand finale, dozens of students participated in a group percussion session on bongo-type drums. WHBLC is an Eastern Suffolk BOCES school that provides special education services. “Never underestimate the power of music,” explained Cummings. “As soon as the band picked up their instruments, our students could not wait to sing along and participate. This is one of their favorite events.”
