Professional Development

Welcome to Eastern Suffolk BOCES Professional Development and Curriculum Development Services!  We offer both regional workshops (open to all districts) as well as in-district customized professional development. Since learning is the focus of all our work, we believe that exploring current issues, designing best practices and developing networks and communities for information sharing and discussion are elements at the heart of our program.

Our goal is to reach into classrooms through teachers and energize the learning through research-based instructional practices. We encourage you to explore our program and partake in as many of the professional development opportunities as you can.  Please click on the "Calendar" page on the left menu to see upcoming offerings.  Our program includes a rich, extensive menu of services and professional development, all deeply embedded with current educational research and approaches to learning.  We are confident that the information you gain will be meaningful and a rewarding path towards your professional growth.

Professional Development regional workshops are excellent learning opportunities for educators. Each is carefully designed to support the most current thinking in education, and provide a forum for new ideas. In-district workshops are professional development sessions requested specifically by a particular district to address a particular goal. These workshops are customized by BOCES staff in collaboration with district administrators. In-district coaching/mentoring is a method used by many school districts to supply the extra support that may be required by teachers either in a particular grade level or content area. Highly expert coaches work, over a period of time, in classrooms with teachers and outside the classroom in training sessions with those teachers and their administrators according to the unique needs of that school district.

Frontline Professional Learning Management System (formerly My Learning Plan) is an outstanding web based data management system. It permits districts to align goals for professional development electronically and even to maintain clear tracking of teacher data regarding workshops and courses as one of the components. On-line registration for teachers and the ability for districts to grant prior approval electronically for conferences and workshops are particularly valuable elements of this system. Please feel free to register for our Professional Development Opportunities workshops through MyLearningPlan.

If you are a "master" certified teacher or school district administrator and you would like to offer possible workshops or consulting services, please send an email with the subject line: 'New Consultant'  and email it to newconsultants@esboces.org.  Please include your top 3-5 areas of expertise, as well as a proposal for a half-day (3 hour) introductory workshop on one of your topics and attach your most recent updated Curriculum Vitae.  If you have retired within the past five years, please include your most recent supervisor references.  If your area of expertise aligns with the current demand and districts' goals, we will do our best to contact you for an interview.
