New Kindergarten Center Opens at Premm Learning Center
The new school year ushered in many new kindergarten students to Premm Learning Center (PLC) as the school’s new kindergarten center officially opened. PLC now houses nine kindergarten classrooms due to the influx ESBOCES has experienced of kindergarten students with special needs. Seven of the nine classes are Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) classrooms for autistic students. ABA programs for autism meet the needs of the individual learner with the goal of helping each student work on skills that will help them become more independent and successful in the short and long term. PLC was well prepared to accommodate these students and the proper teams were put in place for their arrival.
In addition to brand-new classrooms, the center includes a Behavior Intervention Room, where students have a safe space to calm down and reorganize themselves to return to class. The center also features sensory walls in the hallways, and ground will be broken this month on a new playground in the courtyard. The PLC kindergarteners will ultimately be assessed to determine whether they remain PLC students after kindergarten or are placed at ESBOCES Sayville Elementary School.
Premm Learning Center, located in Oakdale, N.Y., serves students with moderate to severe developmental delays. The team at PLC ensure that each student develops to their maximum potential academically, socially, and physically and achieves their highest level of independence.
