Trade Electric Students Visit Commercial Jobsite

Students receive industry tour of the new Bayport 7-Eleven

The Trade Electric and Alternative Energy students in Brett Corcoran’s class at Milliken Tech toured the commercial jobsite of the soon-to-be 7-Eleven in Bayport. Corcoran and Robert LaPlaca, owner of Northstar Electrical Services, the Bohemia-based company that is responsible for the store’s electric work, provided students with the tour and industry information.

Corcoran and LaPlaca pointed out all lines, wires, and cables, which are normally buried underground and hidden within walls and ceilings; and supplied detailed information about their proper use, maintenance, and answered questions.

Said Corcoran, “I wanted my students to get the full experience of a commercial jobsite, the size of it, how important safety is, the pace and quality of the install, and identify the materials with which they now work.”

The Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology, referred to as the Academy, is the Career and Technical Education Program of Eastern Suffolk BOCES and has locations in Bellport, Oakdale, and Riverhead. Milliken Tech is located on the Oakdale campus.
