Establishing Career Connections

MTC Students Network with Industry Professionals

Milliken Technical Center’s CTE Student Showcase was an incredible opportunity for students to connect with industry professionals and explore exciting career paths. From Electrical Trade to Culinary Arts, Clinical Medical Assisting, and more, MTC students impressed attendees with their knowledge and skills, proving they are well-prepared for the workforce.

Local businesses and industry leaders engaged in insightful conversations with students about job trends, internships, and potential employment opportunities. This invaluable experience allowed students to gain firsthand industry knowledge, ask questions, and build meaningful professional connections.

A major highlight of the showcase? The luncheon! Guests enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by future top chefs— a perfect demonstration of the hands-on training and expertise gained through the Culinary Arts program.

Certifications were also a topic of discussion and further showcase the advantages of technical education. From Automotive Technology’s ASE certifications and Clinical Medical Assisting’s BLS CPR/AED certification, to Welding’s Forklift Training and Culinary’s ServSafe certification, these credentials give LI Academy students a competitive edge in their fields.

"Our students here at The Academy are preparing themselves to be career and college ready," said Principal Chanelle Cox. "Interaction with business and industry partners helps in the assessment of their performance on determined job tasks and industry standards."

The Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology, referred to as the Academy, is the Career and Technical Education Program of Eastern Suffolk BOCES, with locations in Bellport, Oakdale, and Riverhead. MTC is located on the Oakdale campus.
