ESBOCES Earns Continued Middle States Accreditation

ESBOCES Earns Continued Middle States Accreditation

Decision reflects years of collaboration, strategic growth, and focus on student outcomes

After years of self-evaluation, planning, and collaboration across the agency, Eastern Suffolk BOCES has been recommended for continued accreditation by the Middle States Association for the next seven years.

The re-accreditation journey, which began in December 2022, involved a comprehensive self-study and strategic planning effort across the agency.

Administrators, faculty, and staff worked together through meetings, surveys, and planning sessions to examine current practices, assess agency-wide goals, and identify opportunities for continued growth.

In addition to the work taking place across the agency, ESBOCES engaged stakeholders throughout the process, recognizing that stakeholder input is essential to strategic planning as the agency works to meet the ever-evolving needs of the region. Feedback gathered from school districts, families, and community partners helped inform planning and decision-making, and this collaborative effort also helped shape the development of ESBOCES’ 2025 to 2032 Strategic Plan.

In November 2025, a peer review team from Middle States spent four days visiting ESBOCES programs, meeting with staff, students, and leadership, and reviewing the agency’s systems, services, and long-term planning efforts.

In its report, the visiting team praised ESBOCES for its strong culture of collaboration, commitment to student success, and ability to use stakeholder feedback and data to guide decision-making. Reviewers also highlighted the agency’s wide range of services, innovative academic and career programming, and focus on supporting students’ social and emotional well-being.

At a commission meeting held in April 2026, the Middle States Association reviewed the visiting team’s report and voted to officially recommend ESBOCES for continued accreditation through 2033.

Continued accreditation affirms ESBOCES’ commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. It recognizes that the agency’s programs, services, and long-term planning meet rigorous educational standards while reinforcing its focus on meeting the evolving needs of the students, families, school districts, and communities it serves.
