BEES Unit Acquires Grant to Assist CTE Students
Funds to help purchase career equipment, uniforms, and more
The BOCES Educators of Eastern Suffolk (BEES) unit is proud to announce that it was awarded $50,000 to aid students in the agency’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs to purchase equipment, uniforms, materials, and SkillsUSA memberships. (SkillsUSA is a national CTE student leadership organization.)
BEES Union President Asha Mazza-Shaw wrote the grant through their unit’s national affiliate, American Federation of Teachers, to acquire the funds for students. The assistance will benefit students in three schools – Bixhorn Technical Center in Bellport, Milliken Technical Center in Oakdale, and Islip Career Center, also in Oakdale.
Said Mazza-Shaw, “We want students to be able to fully access all opportunities offered by their programs. To date, we’ve supported students with the purchase of barbering and cosmetology kits, cameras, HVAC materials, SkillsUSA memberships, and uniforms, to name just a few items.”
