Handcrafted Instruments Help Students Learn about Sound

Students at Sayville Elementary Study the Five Senses

Sayville Elementary Teacher Melissa Kearns and students formed their own marching band with home-made instruments. The class read about ice instruments from Norway when they studied sound, which is part of their five senses unit. They listened to an ice instrument concert and made their own versions from lightweight bottles and cups filled with pebbles. The ‘band’ marched around the school field playing their instruments and even performed for another class.
