Business and Industry Partner Dawn Berntsen, Co-Owner of Pizza Network
Dawn Berntsen likes to invest in enthusiastic young adults. She and her husband own the Pizza Network pizzeria in Oakdale and for the last 30 years, they have regularly hired interns from Islip Career Center to teach them valuable employment skills. “It's such good work experience for them,” she explains. “And once they come in, they do an amazing job.”
The Berntsens teach their interns every aspect of the business. “We don’t just have them make boxes,” she explained. “We have them use our cheese grater, roll dough, and make sauce. This way they really can get the full work experience.”
