Van Gogh Experience

Van Gogh Experience

The BLC Van Gogh Experience was designed as a museum/sensory opportunity for students at BLC. Following Art Teacher, Kristina Testani's own visit to the Van Gogh experience in New York City, she became inspired to bring this to our students.

Upon entering the vestibule, prints of many of Van Gogh’s well-known works are hung for students to view, as well as brief paragraphs about his life. As students enter the room, they are treated to touchable sunflowers made of mixed materials. In the main classroom, music plays, and students are welcomed into a space lit by black lights and mood lighting. Three art stations are set up for students which, upon completion, will be included in a collaborative Starry Night piece. These include “puffy paint”, spatula painting, and coloring on black paper. Alternatively, participants can simply color prints of Starry Night or sunflowers using scented markers or pencils. Before they leave, students can take photos by a glow-in-the dark tapestry of “The Starry Night”. The experience is designed to educate, stimulate creativity and soothe the senses.
