Jackie Robinson Day

Jackie Robinson Day

Every year on April 15th, Major League Baseball (MLB) observes Jackie Robinson Day to honor the legendary baseball player who broke the color barrier in the sport. On this day, every player, coach, and manager from both teams and the umpires wears Robinson's jersey number 42. This tradition is observed in all MLB ballparks. On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson made his major league debut during his first season in the major leagues. To honor Jackie Robinson, BLC students competed in a timed "Stealing Home" race. Students wore #42 stickers (Robinson’s jersey number) and took turns batting and running the bases. Hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, cracker jacks and water was served by students and staff after students ran the bases.
