Core Word Challenge

What started as a staff wide competition at Brookhaven Learning Center grew into an unforgettable event that united three schools in an celebration of AAC and the power of words.

Staff members from BLC, Premm Learning Center, and Masera Middle School each held their own Core Word Challenges to learn more about the communication devices that their students use. Hundreds of staff members participated to learn how to model core phrases on communication devices in a fun fast paced game. The winners from each school came together at Masera Middle School to participate in the Ultimate Core Word Challenge! Mr. JP represented BLC, Mr. Devin represented MMS, and Mr. Melvin represented PLC. 

This event was organized by Susan Terrone, Kim Brosnan, Hanna Ferrugio, and Holly Campanelli. It brought the school communities together to cheer, learn, and celebrate AAC. After a fun and spirited competition, Mr. Melvin  at Premm Learning Center took home the win — but everyone who participated is a champion in our eyes.Congratulations to all our amazing participants! Our students voices matter, and their words have power!
