Visiting the Fire Island Lighthouse

On April 28th, BAC students visited the Fire Island Lighthouse, transforming a historic landmark into a spectacular "living classroom." As the tallest lighthouse in New York, it offered a unique vantage point for students to step beyond their textbooks and immerse themselves in maritime history.

While climbing the tower, students explored the evolution of coastal navigation firsthand. At the summit, they transitioned into atmospheric science, using handheld anemometers and specialized tools to measure wind speed, UV index, temperature, and air pressure. The clear skies even allowed for a rare treat: using a classroom telescope to spot the NYC skyline from 42 miles away.
