Bellport Academic Center ELA Debate Activity

On November 6th, 2024, Mrs. Negrin organized a series of debates for her students. The students were given a variety of topics to choose from and selected positions to argue. One of the key benefits of these debates was that students learned to listen to both sides of an argument before taking a stance. They also honed their public speaking skills and practiced how to respectfully acknowledge their opponents during a debate. In addition, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of supporting their arguments with factual evidence and explaining its relevance.
