BAC Informer Newspaper 2nd Quarter Edition Release

BAC Informer Newspaper 2nd Quarter Edition Release

BAC is excited to have our own BAC Newspaper Club that one of our speech teachers, Ms. Nordin started this school year. This week, we had the opportunity to pop into some of Ms. Nordin's classes to check out the 2nd Quarter Edition of the BAC Informer which is hot off the press. After seeing the amazing work that the classes did, we sat down with Ms. Nordin to find out a little bit more about this great new learning opportunity for students. Here is what Ms. Nordin had to say:

When did you start the BAC Informer Newspaper and what was your motivation behind it?

Ms. Nordin: I started the BAC newspaper during summer school in 2024.  I found a template in Word and thought that it would be fun to have my students publish some of their stories in a paper. I thought that a news paper would be the perfect activity for our students at BAC. When students receive speech and language services, we are often targeting vocabulary, syntax, inferencing skills, pragmatic skills, among other goals.  Students don’t receive a grade in speech, so I felt this was a great way to showcase their hard work and have a goal in place.

What do you love most about running the BAC Informer Newspaper?

Ms. Nordin: What I love about it most is that students have the opportunity to work on their skills and use their strengths.  We work on interviewing for social skills, crossword puzzles for vocabulary, and even art skills to help with description.

Since starting the newspaper, I have had the opportunity to display what other teachers are doing in their classes as well. For example, students completed debates and poems in English class.  They now have the opportunity to add their best work to the school newspaper.

We are so proud of our students and their hard work that they have put into our BAC Informer Newspaper. We can't wait for the next edition!
