BAC Fire Island Lighthouse Field Trip
BAC Fire Island Lighthouse Field Trip
BAC students bundled up to visit the Fire Island Lighthouse on Friday December 6th. Students learned about the history of the lighthouse, how longshore drift has elongated Fire Island by about 5 miles over the past 200 years, and the wildlife that thrives at our national seashore. At the top of the light house students were able to view NYC because of the great visibility and discuss how we can only see from the 34th floor up, due to the curvature of earth. We also were able to measure weather factors, including a temperature of 33⁰F and a windspeed of 28mph atop the lighthouse. Students finished the day with lunch and some hot cocoa on the trip home.
