BAC 4th Quarter “Battle of the Bridges” STEAM Day

 

Competing classroom teams at BAC were tasked with designing bridges using only 140 popsicle sticks and Elmer's glue. Bridges needed to withstand maximum static loads while maintaining a high strength-to-weight ratio. We saw an impressive array of truss patterns, with many groups utilizing the Howe Truss to manage the intense tension and compression forces applied during testing. 

While some designs suffered from early deflection or catastrophic joint failure, the winning bridge held an incredible 145 lbs. (63.5 Kg) before reaching its ultimate breaking point! It was a masterclass in geometric stability and precision engineering.

Congratulations to all the participants for proving that with enough glue and the right engineering principles, even simple wooden sticks can support a massive load capacity.
