1st Quarter STEAM Day at BAC

1st Quarter STEAM Day at BAC

On Wednesday, November 5th, our school hosted the first quarter STEAM Day during the 2nd and 9th periods. Students explored buoyancy, volume, and mass through a hands-on experiment with tin foil boats.

Each student received a 6"x8" piece of tin foil to design a boat that could float. The challenge was to shape the foil to hold weight without sinking.

Students tested their boats by adding pennies one at a time to find the maximum load before sinking. This activity highlighted how different designs impact buoyancy and stability. Teams worked together to create and test their designs and the class with the boat holding the most pennies won. Believe it or not, the winning boat held over 120 pennies! The event fostered creativity, teamwork, and practical application of scientific principles.
