The Cosmetology course, sponsored by Eastern Suffolk BOCES, is located at the Harry B. Ward Technical Center (WTC) in Riverhead and the Edward J. Milliken Technical Center (MTC) located in Oakdale.

The 1,000-hour Cosmetology course is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools.  Successful completion of this course entitles candidates to apply for and take the state licensing examination for Cosmetology. 

If you enjoy working with people and have a desire to be artistic, then the world of cosmetology may be for you.  The Cosmetology course provides students with the skills needed for an entry-level position working in the exciting industry of appearance enhancement.  Normal enrollment includes 10 months of learning activities focused on a variety of topics.  Students will gain knowledge and develop skills in hairstyling, hair coloring, haircutting, all chemical techniques, make-up, skin care, and all phases of nail technology.  OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification is also included in the curriculum.  Preparation for the state board written and practical exam is an essential part of the licensed curriculum.

Tuition for the 2023-2024 Academic Year:

Full-Time Tuition:           * $11,240  

Part-Time Tuition:          * $5,697 (2 school years required to complete program)

Additional costs include:

• the required purchase of a cosmetology kit.  Cosmetology kits will contain tools required to complete the program
• class trips, competitions, professional workshops, SkillsUSA membership, and other optional activities.

Financial Aid:
The Cosmetology program at ESBOCES is eligible to participate in Title IV financial aid programs.  Students attending the Cosmetology program may be eligible for a Pell Grant and/or Direct Loans.  Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility and receive federal student aid funds.  Please click for additional financial aid information relating to the Cosmetology program.

Copyright Infringement:

Unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, including unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing may be subject to civil and criminal liability.  Copyright infringement is the act of exercising, without permission or legal authority, one or more of the exclusive rights granted to the copyright owner under section 106 of the Copyright Act.  These rights include the right to reproduce or distribute a copyrighted book.  In the file-sharing context, downloading or uploading substantial parts of a copyrighted work without authority constitutes an infringement.

Penalties for copyright infringement include civil and criminal penalties.  In general, anyone found liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or "statutory" damages affixed at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed.  For "willful" infringement, a court may award up to $150,000 per work infringed.  A court can, in its discretion, also assess costs and attorney's fees.  For details, see Title 17, United States Code, Sections 504, 505.
