Advocacy

Eastern Suffolk BOCES develops an Advocacy Program on an annual basis.  The program outlines proposed legislative and regulatory changes that the organization has embraced.  Every year our staff and students travel to Albany to engage with lawmakers on issues and topics toward enhancing BOCES role as a regional service provider.

ESBOCES also hosts a Community Legislative Committee where community members are invited to participate and learn about the issues impacting school districts and BOCES, and how to advocate for positive change. Students and adults attend these informative meetings and are committed to work together to benefit our community by learning about, and becoming involved in, government and issues important to our community.  Recent guest speakers have included Senator Dean Murray, and Angelique Johnson-Dingle, Deputy Commissioner of P-12 Instructional Support for NYSED.

In addition, ESBOCES collaborates with, and participates in the advocacy activities of, several educational organizations in the region.
