SAS has implemented a number of grants under the U.S. Department of Education with much success. These have included a Mentoring Grant, Violence Prevention Grant, an Underage Drinking Grant and most recently we were awarded a 3-year elementary Counseling Grant for the Central Islip School District as of August 2013. This grant provides two (2) SAS counselors to help close the counselor to student ratio gap and reduce disciplinary referrals in the newly implemented 6th Grade Central Islip Academies Program. Recently, many of our SAS counselors have taken the lead in assisting schools with implementation of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA). One of our counselors was instrumental in implementing an anti-bullying program that received recognition from the Character Counts Foundation in Washington D.C. this past October. Since then, two other schools have adopted the program.
