BAC Brings Cheer to Senior Citizens

1-05-2010

On December 8, students from the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Bellport Academic Center’s Student Council made their third annual holiday visit to the Medford Multicare Center for Living to share the joy of the season with the elderly.

Samantha P. of the Bay Shore UFSD, Shakiesha A. of the Central Islip UFSD, Brittany T. of the Longwood CSD, and Shleeka B. of the Three Village CSD, open the musical program with traditional holiday songs such as Winter Wonderland, Silver Bells, Let It Snow, and The Twelve Days of Christmas. The senior citizens were delighted with the performance and asked the students to come again next year. The center offers short-term and long-term care including physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

At the end of the musical performance, students introduced themselves to the seniors and assisted them in decorating holiday ornaments to decorate the center’s tree. As they worked, the students carried on conversations with the seniors to learn more about them. Jasmin B. of the Central Islip UFSD helps one of the residents with her ornament.

Shleeka B. of the Three Village CSD gets a smile from one of the residents as she encourages her with the project. The residents were so happy to share experiences with the youngsters from the high school and always look forward to this time of year when the Student Council comes to visit them.

Mr. Metty, teacher assistant, gets into the act much to the delight of one of the senior citizens. She was just so delighted to share the holiday spirit with one of her visitors and enjoyed watching him decorate the holiday ornament for her.

William R. of the Brentwood UFSD assists one of the residents with her ornament. William added his own special talents when the group sang Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer earlier. Representatives from the Medford Multicare Center thanked the students for their uplifting performance and for visiting with their residents.
