Model Schools - Celebration of Technology in Education Teacher and Student Information
Calling All Teachers & Students!

Picture an enormous sports arena at Stony Brook University packed with approximately 150 wireless-enabled PCs and MACs connected to the Internet, interactive whiteboards, and student response systems. Technologically inspired teachers and students are showcasing projects using these laptops, interactive whiteboards, student response systems, and other instructional technologies. Visit with them and they will engage you in interesting conversations about their work process and products. In the same arena, you will find the corporate contacts you need to enliven your district with learning-enhanced technology.

Take this opportunity to showcase your most innovative student and teacher work at the Tenth Annual Celebration of Technology in Education, hosted by the Model Schools Program, at the Stony Brook University Sports Complex Arena on April 16, 2010! Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so do not delay. This all day conference features over 600 students and teachers from Eastern Suffolk County. Please join us for this event and share your technology in the classroom best practices.

The focus of the Celebration is to provide "live" demonstrations of the instructional technologies that are being used on an everyday basis in local schools to enhance standards-based learning. This exhibition of "tried and true" projects at an interactive and casual venue allows attending educators, administrators, and guests to see how different applications are being integrated with curriculum, witness examples of their success, and learn first-hand from their colleagues just how easily they can make similar lessons happen in their own classrooms.

This year, as in last year’s Celebration, Model Schools is working with the Dr. Jane Goodall Foundation to provide approximately 40 Model Schools district teachers with access to the Roots & Shoots website at http://www.rootsandshoots.org/. The Roots and Shoots Program is about making positive change happen for our communities, for our animals and for the environment. Teachers who register for the Tenth Annual Celebration of Technology in Education can be provided complimentary access to this site by emailing Dr. Denise Douglas-Faraci at ddouglas@esboces.org. This membership will provide teachers with access to the Roots and Shoots database, discussion forums and activity guides.
