A Second Year of Fundraising Begins for a Second Sobriety Checkpoint.

Working with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and State Farm Insurance, students attending Summer Career Exploration classes at the Milliken Technical Center (MTC) and the Islip Career Center (ICC) kicked off this school year’s fundraising efforts by walking the large Eastern Suffolk BOCES campuses in Oakdale. With a goal of eventually raising more than $4,000, the amount needed to help purchase a second sobriety checkpoint in memory of Suffolk County Police Officer Glen Ciano, the students did not complain even though the weather was hot and humid. Officer Ciano, who died in the line of duty, was hit by an intoxicated driver. Son Dan Ciano, a 2008-09 graduate of the ESBOCES Trade Electric program, survives him.
