Tech Prep/CTE Approved
The mission of Tech Prep (TP) is to provide a continuing education program of applied and technical courses, on the secondary and post-secondary level, which prepares students to effectively work in a changing high tech society. Close collaboration between local high schools, BOCES and participating colleges is the key to Tech Prep's success.

Tech Prep also provides a forum for networking high schools, colleges and business/industry. Activities include the development of non-duplicative secondary and college curriculums in targeted career areas and supporting a high level of academic preparation through the infusion of applied and contextualized curriculums. Yearly staff development workshops are sponsored for high school teachers, guidance counselors and post-secondary faculty.

Tech Prep is designed for students who plan to continue their education to earn a two-year associates' or higher degree. Participating students can earn an average of six college credits in selected career education classes. College credits are awarded through Suffolk County Community College and other participating post-secondary institutions. This program may also require a student to complete at least one Regents Level Tech Prep contextualized academic course or approved integrated CTE course, which is offered at participating high schools and BOCES Technical Centers. Tech Prep strives to provide students with a seamless transition to college and to master skills that can lead to many satisfying and challenging careers, which require a two or four-year college degree.
