The mission of the Sayville Learning Center, a small diverse community of exceptional learners, is to empower all of our students to demonstrate the mastery of defined skills and knowledge so that they may become productive, responsible individuals who respect and appreciate themselves and others. Through excellence in teaching and learning, in partnership with family and community, this will be accomplished while creating a safe and nurturing environment.
The Sayville Learning Center/Sagamore BOCES Day Treatment Center is a part of Eastern Suffolk BOCES located on the South Shore of Long Island in the waterfront community of Sayville. Approximately 126 students are serviced from 16 of the component districts within a geographical radius encompassing both the towns of Islip and Brookhaven. Appropriate classroom behavior and socialization skills are supported and addressed through the Building-Wide Behavior Management System, which utilizes a token economy system. It is a humanistic approach to modifying behavior through positive reinforcement of appropriate behavior.
