The Substitute Service Office provides procurement of per diem substitute
teachers, nurses, teaching assistants, and teacher aides for Eastern Suffolk
BOCES and participating school districts. On a daily basis, this office
tries to match the best-qualified candidate to replace absent personnel.
Three levels of service are offered:
Basic Level: Utilizing a web based system:
The district:
- Has an employee assigned to the daily operations of the automated
system
- Updates staff and substitute changes in the system
The substitute service office:
- Assists in the initial set up
- Assist district designee in the daily operation of the automated
system
Level I
The district:
- Provides the service with a list of active substitutes
- Maintains responsibility for updating the list
The substitute service office:
- Receives calls on absences
- Obtains substitutes from the district's approved lists
- Notifies all buildings of daily attendance of replacement personnel
Level II
All services in Level I are provided. In addition this office:
- Recruits, interviews, processes and places all substitutes
- Maintains substitute records, processes payroll, and provides requested information for unemployment
- Acts as a liaison between the central offices' record keeping system and the individual buildings
- Verifies licenses/certification and educational status of each individual
- Provides names and certification status of replacement personnel
Ongoing attendance is provided to each facility/district for participating bargaining unit personnel. Replacement personnel are made according to State Education Department guidelines.
