The Stony Brook/BOCES Psychiatric Inpatient Program is a part of Eastern Suffolk BOCES located at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook. Approximately twelve students are serviced from all of the Eastern and Western Suffolk component districts in Suffolk County.
Admission to the Inpatient Psychiatry Program is available:
- For Kindergarten through grade six students.
- Through parent or school referrals.
- After thorough evaluation by school social worker, psychologists and physicians.
Educational Services are provided by BOCES instructional staff. Students are placed in 6:1:1 class size options with one teacher and one paraeducator. Committee on Special Education approved individual paraeducators may also be provided. The staff works closely with the home school to coordinate the academic curriculum so that the instructional process continues without interruption.
The Academic Curriculum follows the New York State Learning Standards. Careful attention is made to provide instruction, which addresses the specific learning styles, and individual academic needs of students. All Committee on Special Education approved related services are provided.
Exit Outcomes for the students are assessed by the transdisciplinary team.
Options include:
- Return to home school district
- Return to or placement in other BOCES Educational Centers
- Day Treatment Program
