Suffolk Aviation Center
Aviation Transportation technology has been expanding exponentially; rapid developments in engine design, navigation equipment, computer processing and human factors research has intersected with the increasing demands of a global economy, further shrinking geopolitical boundaries. The ability to fly under most weather conditions has rendered this transportation medium-safe, reliable and cost-effective.

Training demands have rapidly increased commensurate with this high growth area. Pilot preparation appropriately begins at an early age, permitting students a lengthy career of gradually increasing skills.

This program is committed to providing foundation skills to beginning a professional career.

Aviation/Professional Pilot Training Course

The major goal of the Pre-professional Pilot Program is to provide foundation skills in:
  • complex "real life" situations
  • aircraft operation
  • airport facilities
  • navigation systems
  • weather
  • safety
  • physiological factors for pilots
At the completion of the program, students will have achieved the requirements for a private pilot certificate, demonstrating attainment of the first major step on the ladder to an aviation career.

Educational Opportunities

The Career and Technical Education Integrated Curriculum offers students who have passed the Regents the opportunity to access a sequence credit in English, Math and Science.

Aviation/Airframe Mechanics (FAA)

This program is designed to teach students the technical skills required to become an "A" technician. Successful completion qualifies the graduate to take the written, oral and practical test with the Federal Aviation Administration for the Mechanics Certificate Airframe. The skills and knowledge gained from the program are applicable to other maintenance industries and professions as well as aviation.
