The Regional Information Center supports information and technology needs of
school districts in Suffolk County. It is one of twelve (12) Regional Information
Centers located throughout the State. Professional and cost-effective services
include software training; installation, support, and maintenance for a variety
of financial and student information systems; special education software support;
test scoring; data warehouse and student data analysis; network design and management;
Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) support; and microcomputer
repair services. Our goal is to help districts use technology to make district management easier and more efficient.
The LAN - Telecommunications Help Desk provides support to BOCES and district personnel
via telephone and by dispatching personnel to client locations for hands-on assistance.
We also provide resident technicians in house for district LAN support. We are in
the process of enhancing our network monitoring capability to respond more rapidly
to network congestions and outages.
Annual LAN Maintenance and Support includes the following:
- LAN diagnostics including testing cables with diagnostic
hardware and software
- System password maintenance
- Updating of network user profiles
- Network print server, printer and print queue management
- Anti-virus scanning
- Tape backups design and configuration
- Network operating system patches and Updates - e.g.,
Novell or Windows NT
- Server, Hub, Switch, Router, Bridge Support
Telecommunications provides consulting/project
management services from an experienced technical staff well versed in selecting
the most cost-effective solutions for schools telecommunications needs. Our staff
will assess, evaluate and recommend the best alternatives for switch upgrades, vendor
bid preparation, bid analysis, cost analysis/reduction, carrier evaluation/negotiations
and all services related to school telephone service and equipment. The actual scope
of the services provided will be custom tailored to your needs, goals and environment.
