The Office of Research carries out a program of regional education and
school district finance research for the agency, component school districts,
Long Island businesses, and other stakeholders. Serving as a regional
resource, the office helps constituents achieve their goals through sound
programmatic recommendations, thorough analysis, and effective communication
of findings.
The office's many projects play a critical role in the agency, providing
program and policy research support for the region. Assisting constituents
in defining issues, selecting research designs, obtaining information
and interpreting results, the office helps meet present regional challenges
and develop strategies for improving educational initiatives.
The office is also responsible for the development and maintenance of data
resources to support the research and evaluation processes provided by
Eastern Suffolk BOCES. The office utilizes a wide range of data from both
internal (e.g., the Office's own data and data collection efforts, Regional
Information Center data systems,) and external (e.g., local, state and
federal data) sources to develop analytical tools that inform policy initiatives
and support regional decision-making. The office performs this function
through meeting the ongoing analytical needs of the agency's administration,
consultation with regional experts and organizations, and staff participation
on and support of the strategic planning process.
Some of the services available through the Research office include:
- Survey and questionnaire instrument design.
- Data collection, analysis, and interpretation of data-information
to improve services, measure impacts and/or meet accountability requirements.
- Trend analysis in academic achievement, student demographics, per
pupil spending and other areas influencing regional operations and
strategic planning.
- Literature reviews identifying best practices and model programs.
- Program evaluations
Other education research and evaluation projects tailored to the needs
of school districts, regional organizations, and local and state entities
are also available.
