Eastern Suffolk Boces offers to the school districts of both Eastern and Western Suffolk the opportunity to purchase the Negotiations Information Service (NIS) through a Shared-Services Program.
The NIS service is an expedient source of data for districts negotiating new contracts and/or hiring new personnel. NIS includes timely and extensive reports covering salaries and fringe benefits for Suffolk County:
- Teachers
- Teaching Assistants
- Teacher Aides
- Administrators
- Middle Management Personnel
- Cafeteria Personnel
- Clerical Personnel
- Custodial/Maintenance Personnel
The reports (and updates on the progress of negotiations) are sent to the Chief School Officers of the school districts that have purchased the NIS service.
Using the salary schedules approved at the individual districts, Teacher Salary Rankings and Administrative Salary Rankings are processed into three groups - Eastern Districts, Western Districts, and All Suffolk Districts. Additionally, comparison schedules are created showing average salaries, minimum salaries, and maximum salaries for the teacher schedules. Salary rankings for the Non-Instructional staff and the Middle Management Staff are created showing minimum and maximum salaries in Suffolk County.
Information is available to NIS members on any contract or non-contract item - usually within 48 hours. The data can be faxed, mailed, or e-mailed to the Chief School Officer.
Since many districts in Suffolk County have employee contracts which create raises based on the Consumer Price Index, the NIS Office forwards to member districts a listing on CPI percentages for the New York-New Jersey Area as reported by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. The information includes the current year and two previous years.
