Mission Statement
The Eastern Suffolk BOCES Masera Learning Center provides a transdisciplinary program, reflecting the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, to address the needs of elementary students with autism and related developmental disabilities. New York State Standards are presented through individualized, goal-oriented instructional programs that foster the development of communication and social skills while increasing independence in academic, prevocational and social settings through a hierarchy of structured learning opportunities.
Overview
Masera Learning Center provides an applied behavior analysis program for students with autism and related pervasive developmental disorders. Students who display significantly delayed or disordered cognitive, speech, perceptual motor and social skills receive integrated service delivery to address their individualized needs.
Our center provides highly trained and qualified staff. Staff are assigned based on each student's individual education plan. Staff training is provided throughout the year, with additional support from a full-time staff trainer and psychologist.
Educational programming follows the New York State Standards guidelines, and grade level curriculum is modified to meet the students' abilities. Character Education is infused in the well-developed social skills program. A building-wide behavior management system is used and individual behavior plans are developed as needed.
