In August of 1981, the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Cooperative Bidding program was initiated in order to assist school districts in combating the effects that inflation was placing on the purchasing power of their tax dollars. By bidding their required needs on a cooperative basis, these school districts realized that significant savings could be generated and time and labor could be reduced. In addition, Cooperative Bidding could provide a greater number of competitive bids solicited and received.
In the first year of operation, the Program was composed of ten (10) Islip
Township school districts and the Islip Town Government. More than 20
years later the Cooperative is comprised of Eastern Suffolk BOCES, Western

Bidding Process - Point of View of the Vendor
It is the intent of the Cooperative to add one new category to the bid list annually.
Cooperative Bidding also saves time and labor due to the following services offered by Eastern Suffolk BOCES: membership coordination, legal advertisement obligation, specification development, the computerization of bid lists, vendor solicitation and the production of bid award and purchasing reports. Legal advertisement alone, $300.00 + per bid, can justify Program participation.
An ten-member Advisory Committee, who are elected to three-year terms,
provide direction for the Program in addition to making award recommendations
for all bids. The Advisory Committee members are:
