The Star
The monthly Arts-In-Education Newsletter, The Star, features the Top Ten AIE programs for the month as well detailing the many programs taking place in each of your districts. It profiles one or more programs and events and then informs you of meetings and more.

School Year 2006/2007

  • June 2007 - Read about the Top Ten programs for the 2006-07 school year. Also read about The Arts Economy, NCLB's Impact on Music and Arts Education as well as the Student Theatre Conference.


  • May 2007 - Read about the upcoming kick-off to the Long Island Scholar Artist program, Brookhaven Town¡¦s art show initiative and documents supporting arts education.


  • April 2007 - Learn about how important arts education is in the 21st Century with a synopsis of Daniel Pink’s keynote at the National Arts Education Assn conference. See the districts and program who are awarded Local Capacity Building (LCB) grants in Suffolk County. Read about the successes of some of the arts in ed residency programs.


  • March 2007 - Read about last month’s Visual Literacy event: Make Me Think: Using Visual Thinking Strategies to Enhance Student Achievement. Check out Audience Etiquette with its STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, and ENJOY!


  • Febuary 2007 - Read about the new performances seen at the International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY) Showcase held in January in Cleveland. Find out who on LI is receiving NYS Music Fund grants and the success of Central Islip’s High School Choir.


  • January 2007 - Read about the Scholar Artist Island-wide project that is in the works along w/ a review of Knighthorse Theatre Company who performed for Riverhead students and our Dec. AIE Coordinators meeting. Have an district whose Superintendent includes the arts as a vital component of student learning? Nominate him/her for the NYS Alliance for Arts Education’s Arts Superintendent of the Year. And more.


  • December 2006 - This month’s newsletter continues the art book column as well as synopses of and inspiration from the keynote speeches at the November Balanced Mind Conference and the NYC Arts in Ed Roundtable’s Face-to-Face Conference.


  • November 2006 - See this month’s Top Ten programs along with articles about the Science and Museum Fair held last month along with a panel discussion on Arts Education with the LI Arts Alliance.


  • October 2006 - Upcoming events and inspiration for Arts in Ed programming from Advisory Council Chair, Dr. Kim Lowenborg-Coyne. The State of the Arts from Regent Roger Tilles. District highlights including funding ideas. And a new feature, Page Turners ?books relating and using the arts ?by Ellen Rappaport.


  • September 2006 - Read about last year’s end of year visit to Storm King. Review the updated policies for 2006-07 Arts in Education and Exploratory Enrichment.
