The Star
The monthly Arts-In-Education Newsletter, The Star, features the Top Ten AIE programs for the month as well detailing the many programs taking place in each of your districts. It profiles one or more programs and events and then informs you of meetings and more.

School Year 2004/2005

  • June 2005 - See the top ten Arts-In-Education programs used by Suffolk County Schools. Hear about several lower Manhattan Museums. Learn about Arts-In-Education's plans for Visual Literacy workshops.


  • May 2005 - Spring events are profiled in this issue, including the student LI Media Arts Show, the Literacy and Learning Institute, and the Theatre Arts Symposium and Student Conference.


  • April 2005 - Spring brings hundreds of Arts-In-Education programs to the schools. See the Profile of the first Annual All County Student Art Show hosted by the newly formed Suffolk County Art Leaders Association.


  • March 2005 - March is such a busy month for schools participating in Arts-In-Education programs. Even with the holiday break, over 450 programs are scheduled from writing workshops to science and math-magic events to the LI Philharmonic and various Long Island performing arts centers' performances and more. Read about the collaboration between the Americans for the Arts and the National School Boards Association. And remember to save the dates for the Long Island Media Arts Show and the Theatre Arts Symposium.


  • February 2005 - Suffolk County districts have been very busily engaged in Arts In Ed activities this year. See highlights of programs from yours and other districts. Also read about Ward Melville Heritage Organization's new theatrical endeavor: Running Scared to Running Free and a review of some performances that will be available in our area next school year.


  • January 2005 - Read about the programs Suffolk Districts are participating in. Find out about the districts and programs that received NYS Council on the Arts' Local Capacity Building (LCB) funding. Also info on the Feb. 17 Art In Ed Advisory Council Meeting, LI Media Arts Show and more!


  • December 2004 - In addition to highlighting the Arts in Education programs conducted in Suffolk County districts, this issue features the US Dept of Education presenter, Doug Herbert, who will answer many arts related issues at the NYS Common Ground conference in April. Also includes details on ESBOCES Arts In Education sponsored professional development programs.


  • November 2004 - Learn about the programs offered by Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center and the teacher training and residency programs from Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Our November Advisory Council Meeting will be held Nov. 12 at 8:30 at Tilles where you will see the Hillwood Museum of Art and participate in a brief workshop before seeing a performance of "The Little Prince."


  • September/October 2004 - This issue's Profiles include a Keynote speech from Theodore Bikel, valuable information from Dr. Scott Shuler and Judith Conk on including arts in schools and Literacy and Middle Level Education.
