This is a very exciting time for the Milliken Technical Center. We are undergoing a process where we examine our program and attempt to identify areas where we need to improve. This process is called the Accreditation for Growth (AFG).
AFG is one of two accreditation processes that Middle States developed and offers to its members and those schools considering membership. This option represents a shift in school evaluation by assessing outputs instead of inputs. As a result, schools can now opt for accreditation on the basis of continuous growth in student performance. (Overview: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools - Accreditation for Growth)
Updates
September 1, 2005
- By all accounts, the 2004-2005 school year was another stellar term for the Edward J. Milliken Technical Center. Our staff and students worked diligently to meet, and in some cases exceed, the standards set forth in the Accreditation for Growth goals and objectives summary (see below). You may review the 2004-2005 statistical analysis (in Adobe Acrobat PDF format) at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions or wish to comment, please feel free to contact Samuel McAleese, Principal.
Accrediation for Growth - Goals and Objectives
At our Center, we believe in setting high goals and standards for our students and ourselves. The link below leads to review of our goals and objectives, complete with projections of where we expect to be in just a few years. The school community agreed upon these goals last year. We are currently developing plans to progress towards meeting these goals. If you have any ideas, we would appreciate your input. Please email Robert VanBrunt and he will bring all suggestions before our Planning Committee.

Accrediation for Growth - Minutes
Every day, student officers from our SkillsUSA chapter make announcements over a public address system. These are brief "factoids" on the AFG process and it's effects on the Center. They cover a wide range of facts including information the AFG process itself, our Center's Mission and Belief statements, Our Objectives and Goals, the upcoming visit from Middle States Association, and suggestions on how they can prepare for the end of the year portfolio assessment.
The links below share with you the AFG announcements. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at (631) 244 - 5800.
