Mission Statement
The Islip Academic Center has a dedicated staff that provides a multifaceted educational experience on the secondary level for the academic and social development of all students in partnership with parents and the community. We are committed to empowering students with the skills to be successful in relation to society and their global surroundings.
Student Profile
The Islip Academic Center services all of Suffolk County's 51 school districts. The program at the Islip Academic Center is designed for secondary students who have severe emotional disorders and severe conduct disorders. It is a segregated special education facility. Within the program there is an Intensive Counseling Program (ICP) and a Behavioral strand. The age range of the students is between 15 and 21. The grade levels vary according to diploma status and disability, all of which are determined by the home school district.
Classes
The program is based on self contained and departmentalized classes allowing for the least restrictive environment. The classes are designed to work with each student's Individualized Educational Program.
