Description:  Toni Scheflin, Manager of State & Local Education for Thirteen/WNET & WLIW will be presenting an overview of the wealth of resources available free from PBS. In the afternoon, Deb Bergero and Tasha Maddison, NY State Account Managers for ProQuest will conduct a workshop to introduce activities and content designed to increase student achievement and teacher effectiveness.

What: The River City Project Teacher Training
When: Friday, January 23, 2009 ; 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Where: ESBOCES Raymond DeFeo Building, 215 Old Riverhead Rd., Westhampton Beach
Cost: Free for Model School Districts
Description:  Science teachers, grades 6-9, are invited to participate in River City, a National Science foundation-supported simulation environment for learning scientific inquiry and 21st century skills. River City is an interactive computer simulation of a river town, based in the late 1800’s, that combines digitalized Smithsonian artifacts with an inquiry centered curriculum to engage middle and high school students.

What: Atlantis Marine World Fishy Films: Animal Adaptations
When: Tuesday, February 3, 2009 ; 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Where: Atlantis Marine World, 431 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY 11901
Cost: $145 pp Model School Districts - $217.50 Non Model School Districts
Description:  The ESBOCES Model Schools Program and Atlantis Marine World have joined forces to provide teachers and students with a content rich experience that is expanded by the use of 21st century tools. Teachers will experience the Animal Adaptations class at Atlantis Marine World. After a brief discussion explaining natural selection an educator will guide you to exhibits to learn how different animals have evolved. The focus is on penguins, primates, sea turtles and sharks.

What: Model Schools - Teaching and Learning Celebration Conference
When: March 6 - 7, 2009 ; 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Where: Hilton New York, 6th Ave and 54th Street
Description:  The 4th Annual Teaching & Learning Celebration Professional Development Conference, presented by Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21 in partnership with BOCES of Eastern Suffolk, Western Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, Putnam/Northern Westchester and Southern Westchester will feature more than 150 vendors with resources designed for teachers and classrooms. Conference themes include Science, Global Awareness, Math, Instructional Tech., English Language Learners, Literacy, Autism Understanding & Integration.
